About Me

I've spent the past nine years mostly in the quick service restaurant (QSR) industry.  I started while in high school at Wendy's corporate-operated location, working almost full time thanks to a flexible home-schooled schedule.  Once I graduated and turned 18, I rose quickly through management until I was on salary.  I found myself doing the ordering, the scheduling, the hiring, the firing...loosely assisted by the rest of the management team.

I ended up burning out on the 60 hour a week schedule and the responsibility (which was a lot for a kid just out of high school), but I didn't stray far.  I worked as a pizza delivery driver for a Domino's franchise, as a photo tech in a Walmart.  I took a turn as an Assistant Manager in a Wendy's franchise store, which led me back to the higher-salary and better benefits back with corporate.

Seeing a chance to leave the late nights, early mornings, weekend shifts, and perpetual under-staffing of the QSR I took a 9-5 job coordinating book promotion tours.  After a year of running down book store managers and librarians to talk them into hosting the client authors I realized the desk/sales job wasn't really my calling.  I spent the next two years with the Home Depot, where I started out unpacking boxes but was a key player in managing inventory levels and completing special projects by the time I left.

Currently, I work with a Papa John's franchise as the Assistant General Manager.  It's been an interesting experience, learning to manage dough and delivery times while still bringing my experience to play.  After nine months I was offered the chance to interview for a General Manager position, which I declined in order to go back to college full time.

This blog will allow me an outlet to write and hopefully teach, two of my favorite activities...I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
